Event: Certificate Course on Butterfly Identification [2020-09-12]

Act for Butterflies, an Aeon Charitable Trust initiative in association with Tropical Butterfly Conservatory, Trichy announces a new online one day course on butterflies to learn about the identification, habitats and conservation of butterflies. This one day ‘Certificate Course on Butterfly identification’ is a combination of theoretical and field components focusing on these cute loveable winged creatures.

Course Objective :

This course aimed at those interested in identifying butterflies, the course focus on species identification, behavior, habitats and what the caterpillars and butterflies feed on and concepts and techniques for their conservation.

Course Description :

This one-day course will have two theoretical sessions and a practical session which involves a hands-on project.

Session 1: Will focus on the introduction to butterflies and family wise species identification. In total it will cover 100 number of species found in the Tamil Nadu/South India/India.

Session 2: Will focus on butterfly’s habitat, behavior, feeder and nectar plants. This session also introduces the importance of butterfly conservation and techniques to achieve this.

Each session will last up to one and half an hour and include a question and answer session at the end.

Learning Outcomes :

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to complete the following key tasks:

  1. Learn basics about Butterflies
  2. Classification & Taxonomy of butterflies
  3. Region wise butterfly status & its distribution
  4. Identify different species of butterfly from home.
  5. Butterflies – Importance, Threats and Conservation
  6. Butterfly Conservation Activities
